Monverdo · Our capacity
Reporting, not advice
Monverdo measures and reports. It does not give financial advice.
That is a statement about the capacity in which Monverdo operates, not a marketing position. This page sets out precisely what it means. It also sets out why the constraint sits in the business model rather than in a footer.
What it means in practice
Monverdo shows you what you own, what you owe, what you earned and what you kept. It reconciles those figures to source and shows its working. Any number can be opened to the entries beneath it.
It will not tell you to buy anything.
No ranked options.
No preferred choice highlighted.
No verdict on whether you are saving enough, which is a judgement about your circumstances rather than a fact about your money.
There is no recommendation engine in the product. None is planned.
You bring the decisions. Monverdo brings the numbers those decisions require.
Why the constraint is structural
Most financial products place this in a footer. It is set out here as a page because the reason behind it is worth stating in full.
Monverdo earns revenue in one way. You pay a subscription. There is no commission, no platform fee, no revenue share with a provider, no referral arrangement and no fee for placing a product in front of you. Nobody pays to be visible inside this software.
Consider what that removes. A product earning from your transactions has an interest in you transacting. A product earning from provider relationships has an interest in which providers you see. Neither pressure exists here, because neither revenue line exists here.
The constraint therefore cannot erode over time. Changing it would mean changing how Monverdo earns its revenue.
What you get instead
Your numbers and your assumptions, both editable and both explained.
Underneath Monverdo sits a full double-entry accounting engine, the same discipline a company's books run on. Every figure traces to an entry. Every entry balances.
A worked example is more useful than the assertion. A portfolio returns 9% over the year, which is the figure the annual statement reports. The composition behind that figure tells a different story.
Illustrative · one headline rate, two very different holdings -
What the annual statement does not break down:
Holding
Equity fund
Rental property
Reported on the statement
Return
12.0%
3.0%
9.0%
Illustrative figures, not a claim about typical outcomes. Monverdo shows the breakdown. What it will never do is tell you what to do about the 3%.
Where a calculation depends on an assumption about the future, you set that assumption and it remains visible. Growth rates, contribution levels and time horizons are your inputs, displayed alongside the result they produced. A projection is arithmetic on figures you chose. It is not a forecast. It is certainly not a promise.
What separates reporting from advice?
There are four kinds of statements a financial product can make. Monverdo makes the first three.
ONE · MONVERDO REPORTS IT
What is true about your money
Your net worth on a given date. What one account earned last year after costs. Which accounts hold what. These are measurements of your own data.
TWO · MONVERDO EXPLAINS IT
How the rules and the arithmetic work
What a time-weighted return measures. Why that differs from the growth of your money. The current tax-free savings limits. How capital gains are calculated on a disposal. These are facts about the system, true for everybody and not tailored to you.
THREE · MONVERDO CALCULATES IT
What your own numbers imply, on your own assumptions
Contribute a given amount, at a given growth rate, over a given period. The arithmetic produces a figure. Every assumption remains visible and editable. What Monverdo will never do is attach a verdict to the output, quote you odds of success or suggest your assumptions ought to be different.
FOUR · MONVERDO DOES NOT ADVISE ACTION
What you should do about it
Not in the software, not in the calculators, not in the emails and not on this website. "You should", "we recommend", "the better option" and "most people choose" do not appear, because none of it is ours to say.
The fourth kind is financial advice. Providing it in South Africa requires a licence, a suitability process and a duty of care that software cannot discharge. Monverdo is not licensed to provide it and has not been built towards providing it. The product is more useful without it.
When you want advice
Speak to a licensed financial adviser. That is a point about process rather than about products. It is the only one on this page.
An adviser can do what Monverdo structurally cannot: take your full circumstances, your obligations, your risk tolerance and your intentions, then form a view on what suits you. Good advice is worth paying for.
What Monverdo can do is make that conversation shorter and better informed. Arriving with a reconciled balance sheet and measured returns is a materially different meeting from arriving with a folder of statements and an estimate. Anyone who has spent the first half hour of such a meeting reconstructing last year’s figures will recognise the difference.
The calculators apply this boundary in practice. Each one shows its assumptions, and none of them tells you what to do with the answer.
CAPACITY
Monverdo measures and reports. It does not give financial advice. These figures are calculations from your own data and your own assumptions. For advice about what to do, speak to a licensed adviser.
